Scott Joplin
Scott Joplin (1868-1917) was an African-American composer and pianist known as the “King of Ragtime”. He wrote more than 40 ragtime pieces, including The Entertainer, Maple Leaf Rag, and Treemonisha, as well as a ragtime ballet and two operas. Joplin’s compositions influenced swing music, which later evolved into jazz.
