The Robins were an American R&B group formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1949. The original lineup included Ty Terrell Leonard, Billy Richards, Roy Richards, and Bobby Nunn. They were one of the first groups to be produced by the legendary songwriting and producing team of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller.
In 1955, a split occurred within the group, primarily due to disagreements and the desire for a fresh start. Carl Gardner and Bobby Nunn left to form The Coasters, along with Billy Guy, Leon Hughes, and guitarist Adolph Jacobs. This transition marked the end of The Robins’ most successful period but paved the way for the rise of The Coasters
