Webb Pierce’s breakthrough came with his signing to Decca Records in 1952. His first major hit, “Wondering,” was followed by a string of chart-topping singles, including “There Stands the Glass” (1953), “In the Jailhouse Now” (1954), and “I Don’t Care” (1955). His song “Slowly,” featuring one of the first uses of the pedal steel guitar, became a landmark in country music .
