Kenny Rogers

Kenny Rogers was one of the best-selling music artists of all time. His music was a blend of country, R&B, pop, and jazz, and he was a master of the narrative ballad.

Rogers started his first band, the Scholars, in high school in 1956. He performed his first solo single, “That Crazy Feeling,” on American Bandstand in 1957. In 1966 he joined the New Christy Minstrels, a folk group. After a year, Rogers and a few other Minstrels left to form their own ensemble, the First Edition.

Rogers’s music career took off in the 1970s. Rogers had 24 number one hits, including “The Gambler,” “Lady,” “Islands In The Stream,” “Lucille,” “She Believes In Me,” and “Through The Years.” He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2013. Rogers died in 2020 at the age of 81.
