Billy Murray and the American Quartet

Billy Murray (1877 – 1954) was a popular second tenor in the American Quartet, a four-member vocal group that recorded for various companies in the United States from 1899 to 1925.

Murray was a well-established solo artist by 1909, having made his first solo recordings in 1897. He also performed with Aileen Stanley, the Haydn Quartet, and Elsie Baker. Nicknamed “The Denver Nightingale”, Murray had a strong tenor voice with excellent enunciation and a conversational delivery.
