Some say that the band has had three different lineups, with each lineup fronted by a different member:

  • Peter Green: The first era of the band, which ended in 1970 when Green left due to erratic behavior caused by psychedelic drugs
  • Bob Welch: Joined the band in 1971
  • Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks: Joined the band in 1975 and were a successful songwriting trio for most of the band’s hitmaking career 

Christine McVie and Danny Kirwan have been considered bridges between the different lineups.
