Sly and the Family Stone is an American band that formed in San Francisco in 1966 and was active until 1983. The band is known for its founder, singer-songwriter, and record producer Sly Stone, who plays a key role in the development of funk music by fusing soul, rock, psychedelia, and gospel. The band’s core lineup also includes Sly Stone’s brother, Freddie Stone, who sings and plays guitar, and his sister, Rose Stone, who sings and plays keyboards. Other members include Cynthia Robinson on trumpet, Greg Errico on drums, Jerry Martini on saxophone, and Larry Graham on bass.
