Marvin Gaye

Gaye was known as the “Prince of Motown” and “Prince of Soul”. He played drums for artists like Stevie Wonder and The Supremes before becoming a solo artist. His later recordings influenced several R&B subgenres, such as quiet storm and neo soul. 

Gaye was shot and killed by his father, Marvin Gay Sr., on April 1, 1984, after an argument at their home in Western Heights, Los Angeles.
